Kayo Aiba Statement
Driven by an inexhaustible curiosity and a spirit of inquiry, I pursue a unique form of pictorial expression that weaves together fabric, thread, and the rhythm of the sewing machine through embroidery and collage.
At the core of my practice lies the profound philosophy of "In-nen Sho-ki" (Dependent Origination)—a belief deeply rooted in my identity. It posits that no entity exists in isolation; all things are interconnected through an infinite web of "En" (karmic ties). Each stitch that pierces the fabric and every layer of thread is a ritualistic act of manifesting this invisible flow of connection.
The genesis of my vision traces back to the ballet stages of New York. I was captivated by the "energy within silence"—the way a dancer’s consciousness continues to drift through space even in a moment of absolute stillness. Within the stillness of my textile assemblages, I seek to encapsulate this "consciousness that continues to flow even when motion stops."
The kinetic energy of ballet and the philosophy of Dependent Origination resonate within my work as a singular, invisible flow that transcends time and space. The profound sense of being sustained by this vast interconnectedness expands the possibilities of my expression.
My aim is to capture the very breath and temperature of my subjects within an analog, tactile medium. Through the motif of Woman as a symbol of the lineage of life, I hope that each once-in-a-lifetime encounter with my work leaves a resonant echo of warmth and hope in the soul of the viewer.

私は、尽きることのない好奇心を原動力に、布と糸、そしてミシンを自在に操り、刺繍やコラージュを融合させた独自の絵画表現を追求しています。
私の表現を貫くのは、万物が無数の縁によって繋がり、響き合う「因縁生起（いんねんしょうき）」という東洋の深い精神性です。一針一針が布を貫き、糸が重なり合うプロセスは、目に見えない「縁（えん）」という流れを可視化し、永遠の繋がりを紡ぎ出す儀式に他なりません。
この探求の原点は、ニューヨークで魅了されたバレエの舞台にあります。ダンサーの動きが止まった瞬間にさえ、空間に満ち溢れる「静寂の中のエネルギー」。一見、静止している布と糸の集積の中に、私はその「止まってもなお流れ続ける意識」を封じ込めています。
バレエが放つ一瞬の輝きと、万物を繋ぐ「因縁生起」の思想。これらは私の表現において、時空を超えて循環する「目に見えない流れ」として美しく共鳴します。この広大な繋がりの中に生かされているという安堵感が、私の創作に確かな生命力を与えています。
アナログな手仕事の中に、対象の息遣いと生命の温度を定着させること。生命を繋ぐ象徴としての女性やご神木というモチーフを通じ、一期一会の出会いが鑑賞者の魂に温かな希望と永遠の余韻を刻むことを願っています。

My Mission: Weaving the Resonance of Interconnectedness
My mission as an artist is to translate the profound Eastern philosophy of "In-nen Sho-ki" (Dependent Origination) into a contemporary visual language, manifesting the invisible threads that bind all existence. In an era often defined by fragmentation and isolation, my work serves as a vital bridge—a ritual of stitching together the severed connections of our world.
Through the rhythmic pulse of my sewing machine and the layering of textiles, I perform the essential task of making the "Invisible Flow" tangible. My creative process is not merely an act of construction, but a commitment to documenting the continuity of life. Inspired by the "energy within silence" I witnessed in New York’s ballet, I strive to encapsulate the consciousness that flows even in stillness, proving that no element of this universe exists in a vacuum.
My work in this world is to settle the breath and temperature of life into the "Strata of Existence." By focusing on Woman as the sacred symbol of life’s lineage, I present a testament to the dignity of our shared origin and the hope that carries into the future.
To collect my work is to participate in a "Chain of Prayer"—a resonance of "En" (karmic connection) that transcends borders and generations. My ultimate calling is to restore the sense of profound interconnectedness within the human soul, ensuring that each once-in-a-lifetime encounter with my art leaves an eternal echo of warmth and unity across the globe.
※Innen-shoki is the formal Buddhist term for "En-gi" (Dependent Origination).
It refers to the principle that all phenomena arise when a direct cause (In) and an indirect condition (En) combine to produce a result.
ミッション・ステートメント：世界における私の使命
私は、布と糸、そしてミシンという現代の道具を使い、東洋の深層心理である「因縁生起（いんねんしょうき）」を現代美術の文脈へと翻訳し、可視化することを使命としています。
現代社会は分断と孤立の中にありますが、私の仕事は、一針ごとに「目に見えない縁（えん）」を繋ぎ直し、万物が本来持っている**「生命の連続性」**を証明することにあります。ニューヨークで目撃したバレエの「静寂の中のエネルギー」は、静止した物質の中にも意識が流れ続けているという真理を私に教えてくれました。
私の成すべき仕事は、単なる絵画表現に留まりません。布を重ね、糸を刻むプロセスを通じて、目に見えないエネルギーの循環を物理的な「地層（Strata）」として定着させること。そして、**「生命を繋ぐ象徴としての女性」**を描くことで、失われつつある生命の尊厳と、未来へと続く希望の系譜を世界に提示し続けることです。
アナログな手触りの中に、万物を繋ぐ体温を宿すこと。私の作品が世界中の人々の手に渡ることは、一期一会の縁が国境や時代を超えて広がり、人類が本来持っている「繋がりの感覚」を取り戻すための**「祈りの連鎖」**となることを意味しています。
※因縁生起（いんねんしょうき）とは、仏教用語で「縁起」の正式な名称です。
すべての事象は直接的な原因（因）と間接的な条件（縁）が結びついて（生起）、結果が生まれるという道理です。
ABOUT KAYO AIBA PROFILE
Kayo Aiba | Artist Biography
Kayo aiba was born in Aichi, Japan. After graduating from Nagoya University of the Arts, she moved to New York, where her artistic foundation was profoundly shaped. Captivated by the physical expression of ballet and the "kinetic energy within stillness" witnessed on the New York stage, she developed her signature style. After returning to Japan, she worked as an illustrator for design firms and Creek & River Co., Ltd. before launching her full-time career as a freelance artist in 2005.
Aiba pursues a unique "ambiance" and "presence" that digital media cannot replicate, utilizing an original embroidery collage technique that masterfully manipulates fabric, thread, and the sewing machine.
Global Recognition & Collections
In 2003, at her debut solo exhibition in New York, her work was acquired by the world-renowned art collector Ronald S. Lauder (Founder of the Neue Galerie New York and former Chairman of the Museum of Modern Art). Her visionary approach has garnered high acclaim both domestically and internationally, with her pieces also being held in the private collection of acclaimed filmmaker Takeshi Kitano since 2008. From 2005 to 2016, she maintained a permanent exhibition at "Hiroko's Place Cafe Gallery" in SoHo, New York, receiving numerous commissions for portraits and bespoke works. Currently, she is prolifically creating works that embody the warmth of handcraft, driven by her mission to transform the philosophy of "In-nen Sho-ki" (Dependent Origination) into a universal artistic language.

アイバカヨ | Kayo Aiba
愛知県生まれ。名古屋芸術大学卒業後、渡米。ニューヨーク滞在中に触れたバレエの身体表現と「静止の中の躍動」に感銘を受け、現在の作風の礎を築く。帰国後、デザイン事務所およびクリーク･アンド･リバー社所属イラストレーターを経て、2005年よりフリーランスとして本格的に始動。布、糸、ミシンを用いた独自の刺繍コラージュ技法により、デジタルでは成し得ない「空気感」と「存在感」を追求している。
2003年、ニューヨークでの初個展にて、作品が世界的なアートコレクターであるロナルド・ローダー氏（ノイエ・ギャラリー創設者）の所蔵となる。2008年には映画監督・北野武氏が作品を所蔵するなど、国内外で高い評価を得る。2005年から2016年にかけて、ニューヨーク・SOHOの「Hiroko's Place Cafe Gallery」にて常設展示を行い、ポートレート制作等の依頼を多数受ける。現在は「【因縁生起】を世界共通の言語（アート）にする」という役割をテーマに、手仕事のぬくもりが宿る作品を精力的に発表している。
